Michael Carrick is a professional football coach and former football player who is currently the manager of the EFL Championship club Middleborough. Born on 28th July 1981 in Wallsend, England, Carrick is regarded as one of the best English players of all time. He is particularly known for his 12-year spell with Manchester United, where he made 316 appearances. He played mainly as a central defender but was sometimes deployed as a center-back by Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal, and David Moyes.
Carrick started his career in 1997 with the youth setup at West Ham. He went out on loan to Swindon Town and Birmingham City in 1999 and 2000, respectively. In 2004, he joined Tottenham Hotspur and went on to make 64 appearances for the north London club. In 2006, he joined Manchester United as a replacement for Roy Keane, who had left the club. In January 2019, he joined the club’s coaching staff. In 2022, he was appointed manager of Championship club Middlesbrough.
