Michael-René Grabner is a professional ice hockey player born in Villach, Austria, on October 5, 1987. He played for EC VSV in the Austrian Hockey League and Spokane Chiefs of the major junior Western Hockey League. The Vancouver Canucks selected him as the 14th overall pick in the first round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, becoming the second Austrian to be selected in the first round after Thomas Vanek.
Michael made his NHL debut with the Vancouver Canucks on October 16, 2009. Before his debut, he played in the American Hockey League for the Manitoba Moose, helping them advance to the Calder Cup Finals. He made the 2011 NHL All-Rookie Team.
Michael played for Austria at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, tying for the tournament lead with five goals. The right-wing played for New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, and New Jersey Devils. The Arizona Coyotes signed him as a free agent on July 1, 2018.
