Michael Irvin, signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 1988. Irvin, who was chosen in the first round of the 1988 National Football League Draft as the 11th player overall, rose to become one of the best receivers in Cowboys and NFL history. He made history by being Dallas' first rookie wide receiver in more than 20 years to start the first game of the season. In that game, he caught his first of 65 touchdown passes in his career. Irvin topped the NFC in yardage per grab during his first season, averaging 20.4 yards. Irvin had his best season in 1995, hauling in 111 catches for 1,603 yards. In addition, he scored 10 touchdowns and set an NFL record with eleven games of 100 yards or more. Irvin has 750 catches for 11,904 yards overall. He became a sports commentator after retiring in July, 2000, due to a non-life-threatening cervical spine injury.
