Michael Anthony Edward Kidd-Gilchrist is a professional basketball player born on September 26, 1993, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He was a finalist for the Morgan Wootten National Player of the Year Award and the Naismith Award for the National High School Player of the Year. He was the 2009 New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year.
The three-time New Jersey All-State Selection participated in the McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand Classic All-American Games. Michael represented the USA team in the Nike Hoops Summit. He played college basketball for the University of Kentucky, winning the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament under Coach John Calipari.
Michael represented the USA in the 2010 FIBA World U17 Championship in Hamburg, winning a gold medal with the team. The Charlotte Bobcats selected him as the second overall pick in the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft. He also played for the Dallas Mavericks. His career accomplishments include NBA All-Rookie Second Team (2013), First-team All-SEC (2012), McDonald's All-American Game Co-MVP (2011), and Mr. Basketball USA (2011).
