Michael Mann is an American film director, screenwriter, and television and film producer born in Chicago, Illinois on February 5, 1943. He is known for his brand of stylized crime drama. His best known work is the crime films Man Hunter, Heat, The Last of the Mohicans, Thief, The Insider, and Collateral. He is also known for being the executive producer on the show Miami Vice. Mann received a graduate degree at the London Film School. He has been part of the films Straight Time, Thief, The Keep, Manhunter, The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, The Insider, Ali, Collateral, Miami Vice, Public Enemies, Blackhat, Band of the Hand, The Aviator, The Kingdom, Hancock, and Texas Killing Fields. He has been part of the television shows Bronk, Gibbsville, Starsky and Hutch, Police Story, Police Woman, Vega$, The Jericho Mile, Swan Song, Miami Vice, Crime Story, L.A. Takedown, Drug Wars: The Camarena Story, Drug Wars: The Cocaine Cartel, Robbery Homicide Division, and Luck. Throughout his career he has been nominated for a number of awards and has won two Primetime Emmy Awards, a BAFTA Award, an Empire Award, a Hollywood Film Award and more.
