Michael W. Smith is an American Christian music artist. The songwriter was born in Kenova, West Virginia on October 7th, 1957. Beginning his career as a keyboardist and songwriter, he released his first solo album in 1982, “The Michael W. Smith Project”. It got him a Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Performance, and preceded his second album, “Michael W. Smith 2”. Smith has won both Dove and Grammy awards and has taken several albums to gold and/or platinum. As of 2000, he had sold more than seven million records and notched 25 chart-topping Christian hits. His third live album, “A New Hallelujah”, was released in 2008, and a studio album, “Wonder” in 2010. They were both part of the Top 30 on the Billboard 200. His first pop album for many years, “A Million Lights” was released in 2018. In 2019 he returned with a live album, “Awaken: The Surrounded Experience”.
