Michaela Coel Born Michaela –Moses Ewuraba O Boakye-Collinson on the 1st of October 1987, in London and is a British poet, playwright, songwriter, singer, screenwriter and actress. With an education from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, she also studied at Theatre Royal Stratford East and began a career as a poet, doing so throughout her career to date.
As a singer, Coel has released an EP and two LP’s receiving success for her unique sound. As an actress, Coel’s career began with a small role in the British crime drama Top Boy as kayla, which she followed with short roles in London Spy, The Aliens and Black Mirror. The actress is however best known for creating and writing her own television show, Chewing Gum, in which she portrays Tracey and a role for which she has won two BAFTA awards.
