Michel Roux Jr. Bio
Michel Roux Jr. (born 1960 in Pembury, Kent), born to private chef Albert Roux, is a world-renowned British chef, most popular for managing the restaurant Le Gavroche for over three decades. He is also a familiar face on British TV and has written a number of cookbooks.
When Roux was 16 years old, he decided to follow in Albert‘s footsteps to become a chef. He took on a two-year pastry apprenticeship under Henri Hellegouarch in Paris. The apprenticeship was the first of several challenging apprenticeships taken on by Roux. When he was 18, Roux worked as a commis chef in Alain Chapel's three Michelin-starred Mionay restaurant.
After undertaking basic training with the French Army in 1982, Roux worked in the kitchens at the Elysée Palace serving under both Presidents Giscard d’Estaing and François Mitterrand. After his military service in March 1983, spent some time in Paris. In 1990, Roux returned to Le Gavroche and in 1991, took over the management of the restaurant from his father and uncle.
