Micky Dolenz Bio

Micky Dolenz is an American actor, director, musician, and radio personality born in Los Angeles California on March 8, 1945. He is best known as the vocalist and drummer for the band The Monkees. His career started in 1956 on the children’s television show Circus Boy. In 1965 he landed a role on the television show The Monkees and became part of a band made for television. Initially he didn’t know how to play the drums, but learned while on the show and was able to play when the band went on tour in 1966. The band released several albums while together, including The Monkees, More of the Monkees, Headquarters, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd., The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees, Changes, Pool It!, Justus, Good Times!, and others. Several of their early albums reached Platinum status. After the band broke up Dolenz did voice acting in cartoons like The Scooby-Doo Show, These Are the Days, Wonder Wheels, and more. He has also done work in theater for productions of The Point!, Pippin, and Aida. In 1980 he made his directorial debut on the television sitcom Metal Mickey and has also directed a short film, theater productions, and a children’s show.
