Mike D is the stage name of the American rapper, singer, and drummer Michael Louis Diamond. He was born in New York City, New York on November 20, 1965. He is best known for being a founding member of the hip hop group the Beastie Boys. In 1979 he co-founded the band AThe Young borigines. In 1981 they changed the band’s name to the Beastie Boys. Diamond founded the Beastie Boys record label Grand Royal Records in 1992. The Beastie boys released their debut studio album in 1986 titled Licensed to Ill and continued releasing the albums Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication, Hello Nasty, To the 5 Boroughs, The Mix-Up, and Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. They released eight studio albums, four compilation albums, five video albums, and nine EPs. They have sold over 26 million albums in the United States and 50 million albums worldwide. In 2012 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and disbanded that same year. The group won three Grammy Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards Japan and an MTV Europe Music Award.
