Michael John Myers was born on May 25, 1963, in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. He got his first role when he appeared in a commercial, and from there he started out in comedy. In the 1980’s, Myers was cast as “Wayne” in the video show City Limits, which also landed him a part in one of Christopher Ward’s music videos. Myers’s character of Wayne would later show up in It’s Only Rock & Roll, and Myers also created a sketch titled “Kurt and Dieter,” which would become a sketch on Saturday Night Live. This sketch influenced Wayne’s World (1992), which was such a success that a sequel was made the next year.
Perhaps Myers’s most prominent role, however, was that of Austin Powers. He appeared in all three Austin Powers films, playing the title role as well as other characters. This role would later land him a spot in a Britney Spears music video. He then acted in The Cat in the Hat in 2003, which contributed to him being cast as the lead role in the Shrek series in the early 2000’s. He went on to star in The Love Guru (2008) and Inglorious Basterds (2009), which he worked on with Quentin Tarantino.
Myers belongs to the band Ming Tea, which includes Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs who are two of the members of The Bangles. Not only has he won and been nominated for numerous awards including MTV awards, five American Comedy awards, Emmy Awards, TV Land awards, and Razzie Award, but he has also received several huge awards for his work. He became a part of Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2003, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010, got his picture on a stamp by Canada Post in 2015, and in 2017 he was named an Officer of the Order of Canada, which is a prestigious Canadian title.
