Michael Rowe was born on March 18, 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland. He has worked in television since the mid 1980’s. His first major role in TV was on Your New Home, which he impressively hosted for fifteen years at the beginning of his career for a minor TV network. He also infamously applied to be a presenter on QVC as a result of a bet with a friend and it was this experience that would pave the way for a number of other hosting positions.
He is perhaps best known for hosting Dirty Jobs (2003-2012), a Discovery channel series that followed him as he travelled the length and breadth of the USA trying out only the dirtiest and most unappealing jobs. He went on to host a number of Discovery series including Ghost Hunters (2004), Deadliest Catch (2005- Present) and The Ultimate Fighter (2006-2010). It was these experiences that inspired him to start campaigning for better workers’ rights through starting his charitable foundation MikeRoweWorks.
