Born John Stephen Sudduth on December 17, 1984, in Shreveport, Louisiana, singer and producer Mikky Ekko rose to near over-night popularity in 2013 when he appeared on Rihanna’s single “Stay”, a track which received tremendous airtime in the United States as well as in many other countries around the world. Mikky Ekko’s childhood was marked by constant movement from one town to another, but his music career really kicked off in Nashville when he began touring with the group Ten Out of Tenn. He would later release his first EP in 2009 entitled Strange Fruit, which was followed by two EPs the next year, Reds and Blues. He gained much attention through the YouTube release of his song “We Must Be Killers” in 2012, which garnered more than 100,000 views.
2013 saw Mikky Ekko as a household name after he and another writer penned what would become Rihanna’s single “Stay”, a song that rose to the #4 slot on the UK Singles Chart as well as to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The two would later perform the song at the Grammy Awards that same year, and Mikky Ekko would go on to help write the song ”We Remain” for the 2013 film Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
