Miranda July is an American singer, actress, filmmaker, and author. She was born Miranda Jennifer Grossinger on the 15th of February, in Barre, Vermont, U.S. July took part in the riot grrrl scene in Portland, and she began making independent movies. In 1995 she made her first short film “Atlanta” which appeared in the project “Biss Miss Moviola”. In 2004, she was named by Filmmaker magazine as the number one filmmaker in their “25 New Faces of Indie Film”. In 2005, she made her first long feature film titled “Me and You and Everyone We Know”. Her movie was awarded The Caméra d'Or prize in The Cannes Festival. In 2020 she wrote and directed the comedy-drama film “Kajillionaire” starring Evan Rachel Wood, Richard Jenkins, and Debra Winger. She has also published several short stories including “The Boy from Lam Kien” and “Something That Needs Nothing”. Her book “No One Belongs Here More Than You” won the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award in 2007.
