Modern English is a rock band from England. The band was formed in 1979, and it’s widely recognized for its hit songs “Ink and Paper” and “I Melt with You”. After releasing a single on their own label in 1979, they signed a recording contract with 4AD in 1980. They released their debut album, titled “Mesh & Lace” the following year under the label. Their second album, titled “After the Show” was released in 1982. The album was released in the United States by Sire Records in 1983, sold more than 500,000 copies, and charted at number 70 on the Billboard chart.
Their third album, “Ricochet Days” was released in 1984 under the 4AD label. The album made it to top 100 in the United States. The band left the recording label after releasing the third album. Their fourth album, “Stop Start” was released in 1986, followed by the fifth album, “Pillow Lips” in 1990. Other albums released by the band include “Everything’s Mad” in 1996, “Soundtrack” in 2010, and “Take Me to the Trees” in 2016.
