Scottish post-rock band Mogwai came together officially in 1995, initiated by friends Stuart Braithwaite, Dominic Aitchison, and Martin Bulloch. The next year, they released their debut single “Tuner”/”Lower”, took on members John Cummings and Brendan O’Hare, and solidified their lineup just before releasing their debut album Mogwai Young Team in 1997. Shortly after, Brendan O’Hare was fired from the band and replaced by Barry Burns, and with the new band mate, Mogwai recorded and released their sophomore album Come on Die Young in 1998. Their highest charting album to date, however, was their third, entitled Rock Action which peaked at #23 on the UK Album charts.
Mogwai would go on to release Happy Songs for Happy People in 2003, Mr Beast in 2006, The Hawk is Howling in 2008, Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will in 2011, and Rave Tapes in 2014. They are known and praised for their elongated guitar pieces as well as their skilled use of distortion and other effects in their songs.
