Jimmy Donaldson (Born May 7, 1998), better known as MrBeast, is an American YouTuber who is known for his stunt videos on YouTube. He was one of the most-viewed YouTubers as of 2019 and has garnered 27 million subscribers at the young age of 21. The North Carolina native was only 13 when he uploaded his first video in 2012. According to Business Insider, and MrBeast himself, he aimed at cracking YouTube’s algorithm on what content would gain the most views. He first began posting compilations of highlights of gamers on games such as Call of Duty and MineCraft. His first viral video was in 2017, uploading himself counting to 100,000. He continued to create similar videos such as spinning a fidget spinner for 24 hours amongst many other hour-long challenges. By the end of the year, he amassed 1 million subscribers on YouTube. MrBeast then moved on to charity stunts where he would give out thousands of dollars to Twitch users, Uber drivers and give out cars for free. By 2018, MrBeast had given out $1 million dollars from the success of his channel and was named “YouTube’s biggest philanthropist”. Leading even greater charity causes, he launched #TeamTrees in 2019, a fundraising campaign that aimed to plant 20 million trees by the end of the year with many investors, influencers, and tech execs such as Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey. As of 2020, MrBeast, at the age of 21, has passed the 30 million mark on his YouTube following with over 10 million views on each of his videos, and 10 million followers on Instagram.
