Coming from Gainsville, Florida, Mudcrutch is a southern rock band found in the 1970s. They were a precursor for the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. They then moved to the Florida bar circuit, where the band consisting Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Tom Leadon, Benmont Tench, and Randall Marsh, was offered a recording contract with Shelter Records in 1974.
However, before any final album launch, the band disbanded. Petty remained in contract under the label as a solo artist. But after sometime, the band got together assuming Petty’s contract as solo artist making the band Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers in 1976. Then in 2007, the Mudcrutch was reunited to release the self-titled “Mudcrutch” under Reprise Records.
