Mura Masa, born Alex Crossan on April 5th, 1996 in Castel, Guernsey is a DJ, songwriter, musician, and producer. He specializes in the genres of electropop, trap, hip house, art pop, alternative R&B, nudisco, and wonkypop. Alex was always drawn to music as he played the guitar, bass, drums, piano and in a local punk band until the age of 16. He began exploring electronic music via YouTube through artists such as James Blake, Cashmere Cat, and SBTRKT. His musical influences include the Gorillaz and The Smiths.
At the age of 17 he uploaded his first songs to Soundcloud. The single “Lotus Eater” was picked up by BBC Radio 1 for play on multiple shows. In 2014 he posted his first mixtape to Soundcloud called Soundtrack to a Death. The mixtape was picked up and distributed by German label Jakarta Records. In 2015 he released his first EP called Someday Somewhere. The lead single, “Firefly,” was chosen for the New Music We Trust playlist on BBC Radio 1. He created his own label called Anchor Point Records with distribution rights through Polydor Records and Interscope Records. In 2016 he released his second single called “What if I Go?” He then released a collaborative record with A$AP Rocky called Love$ick. On July 14th, 2017 Mura Masa released his debut album entitled Mura Masa.
