The part for which actress Nancy Cartwright is most known was one in which she did not appear on camera. Even though she was generally unknown as a voice actress in person, her performance as Bart Simpson on the Fox animated sitcom "The Simpsons" (1990-) and earlier in shorts on "The Tracey Ullman Show" (Fox, 1987-90) were well-known. From an early age, Cartwright was aware of her uncommon vocal abilities, and after landing a position at an Ohio radio station gave her the chance to showcase them and get attention, it was suggested that she pursue a career in animation. Cartwright phoned Geneva Butler, a famous voice artist and went to UCLA, where she was schooled by him in vocal technique. Along with Disney's "The Little Mermaid," she also voiced characters in the animated films "My Little Pony" (1986), "The Chipmunk Adventure" (1987), "Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland" (1990), and "The Chipmunk Adventure" (1989).
