Neil deGrasse Tyson Bio
Neil deGrasse Tyson was born on October 5, 1958 in New York. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University in Physics and a doctorate in astrophysics from Columbia University in 1991. He landed a job as a staff scientist at the Hayden Planetarium eventually becoming the director in 1996 where he oversaw an ambitious reconstruction project which was completed in 2000.
In 2001 he was appointed to a commission on the future of the aerospace industry by President George W. Bush. In 2014 he hosted and helped in the creation of the television series COSMOS: A Space-Time Odyssey. Tyson is known of his ability to convey difficult concepts into simpler and more digestible data which has turned him into one of the most in-demand science experts appearing in shows like Real Tim with Bill Maher, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.
