Neil Peart, born Neil Ellwood Peart in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada is a Canadian musician and author known primarily for his work as the drummer and lyricist of the band Rush. During his early musical years he moved from band to band looking for work as a full time drummer. He joined the rock band Rush in 1974.
As a group, Rush released their debut album in 1975 called Fly by Night. The album won a Juno Award for Best New Act. 1976 brought Rush their breakout success when Neil penned the album 2112. The album became a critical success internationally. Rush then recorded 5 albums over the course of the next three years and played over 300 shows. Neil has won Modern Drummer’s Best Rock Drummer Award 9 times and has been inducted in Modern Drummer’s Hall of Fame.
