Neill Blomkamp was born on September 17, 1979, in Johanessburg, South Africa. He is a well-known film director, producer, screenwriter, and animator, most popular for having co-written and directed the action fiction film called District 9, which brought him an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay nomination. The film also brought him the Bradbery Award from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. Neill Blomkamp has been named as one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2009 by Time Magazine while Forbes has named him the 21st most powerful celebrity from Africa. He has also directed another dystopian science fiction film called Elysium to which his next science fiction film called Chappie followed. Numerous short films were created by Neill Blomkamp as well, during his career.
