Neneh Cherry is a Swedish songwriter, singer, and DJ. She was born Neneh Mariann Karlsson, on the 10th of March, 1964, in Stockholm, Sweden. She started her musical career in London in the 1980s where she bursted in the punk scene, performing alongside bands like The Slits and Rip Rig + Panic. She released her debut album “Raw Like Sushi” in 1989, and it reached number three on the UK Album Chart. It was followed by her second studio album “Homebrew” in 1992, which featured a mix of genres going effortlessly from jazz to trip hop. She waited four years before she released her third album “Man” which included the song “7 Seconds” which was a collaboration with Youssou N’Dour. Cherry was nominated for a Grammy in 1994 for that song. She released her fourth album “Blank Project” in 2014. She is also the founder of the band CirKus.
