Niall Horan, born Niall James Horan in Mullingar, Ireland is an Irish singer and songwriter as well as a member of the boy band One Direction. Nail got his start in the music industry after he appeared as a contestant on the X Factor’s seventh season in 2010.
For his audition for X Factor, Niall sang the song “So Sick” to mixed reviews. He was let into the boot camp phase of the competition where he sang the song “Champagne Supernova,” but failed to qualify for the main competition as a solo artist. At the suggestion of the judges he was paired with four other boys, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, to form the group One Direction. Nail and his band mates signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco Records label in 2011 and released their first album, Up All Night. The album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200. The group’s subsequent albums, Take Me Home, Midnight Memories and Four, also reached number 1.
In 2016, after the breakup of One Direction, Niall signed a solo record contract with Capitol Records. He released his debut solo album, Flicker, in September of 2016. The single “This Town” peaked at number 9 on the UK Singles Chart and number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. The second single, “Slow Hands” also entered the Top 10 on both charts.
