Nick Grant was born on July 27, 1988 in the small town of Walterboro, South Carolina. He began rapping at the age of 12, “battling” friends and neighbors regularly. Grant moved to Atlanta before the start of ninth grade where he continued honing his talent, battling students at a nearby university.
His big break came in 2014 when Grant’s older brother showed Grand Hustle Records CEO and long-time business partner of T.I., Jason Geter, a video of Nick rapping. Geter jumped on the chance to become Nick’s manager and signed him to his new imprint, Culture Republic. His well-received mixtape, ’88, which included guest appearances by Killer Mike, Big K.R.I.T., and BJ the Chicago Kid, was released in 2016. Later that year, Grant released EP A Seat At The Table Plus One (inspired by Solange’s acclaimed A Seat At The Table album).
In January 2017, Grant released full-length album Return Of The Cool, which once again featured BJ the Chicago Kid, along with Ricco Barrino, WatchTheDuck, and Dominic Gordon. The album peaked at #28 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
