Nicola Coughlan Bio

Nicola Coughlan is a Television actress, who hails from Galway, Connacht, Ireland. Born on January 9, 1987, Coughlan is best known for starring in the sitcom “Derry Girls” as Clare Delvin and Netflix hit drama series “Bridgerton” as Penelope Featherington.

Her decision to become an actress came as no surprise. She watched her older sister perform in a school play and became instantly inspired. She earned a degree in English and Classical Civilization from the University of Ireland before training at The Oxford School of Drama and Birmingham School of Acting.

Coughlan made her acting debut in the action thriller movie “My Brother’s War” in 1997, but the role was uncredited. Her major role was in the 2004 revenge comedy short film, “The Phantom Cnut.”

Her role Clare Devlin in the 2018 sitcom “Derry Girls” gained her prominence and international audience. The following year, it was announced she would be cast in the TV series “Bridgerton.” Coughlan won the “Rising Star Award” for her role in “Bridgerton” at the Irish Film and Television Awards.
