Marcelo Nicolás Lodeiro Benítez, better known as Nicolás Lodeiro, is a Uruguayan footballer, born on March 21, 1989, in Paysandú, Uruguay. He began his youth career with Barrio Obrero and debuted professionally for Nacional in 2007. He signed for Ajax in 2010 and won Eredivisie in both of his seasons at Ajax. After two years, he signed with Botafogo and later played for the Corinthians in Brazil and Boca Juniors in Argentina. He signed with the Seattle Sounders in 2016 and was named the 2016 MLS Newcomer of the Year. The Uruguayan has played professionally in Uruguay since 2009 and scored his first international goal on June 23, 2011. He was part of the team that claimed the Copa America trophy over Paraguay, alongside Luis Suárez, Álvaro Pereira, and Diego Forlán.
