Nicole Beharie Bio

Nicole Beharie (nicknamed Nikki Beharie) is an American actress and singer, best known for her role in the 2008 drama film “American Violet” and Baseball film “42.” She was born on January 3, 1985, in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Beharie has been enthusiastic about acting since she was little. Growing up, she traveled frequently with her family because her father worked in the U.S. Foreign Service. The travels helped her gain exposure, and probably influenced her choice of taking up acting as a career.

She graduated from South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, Greenville in 2013 before proceeding to the prestigious Juilliard Drama School in New York. She was the first student from South Carolina Governor’s School to be accepted into the drama school.

Beharie became prominent after starring in critically acclaimed movie “American Violet” as the lead actress. She featured in other popular films, such as “The Express: The Ernie Davis Story,” Sins of the Mother,” “42” with Chadwick Boseman, “My Last Day Without You,” a romantic drama film where she performed five original songs, and “Miss Juneteenth.”

In 2021, she won “Best Actress” for her role in “Miss Juneteenth” at the Gotham Independent Film Awards.
