Nigel Lythgoe is a television and film director born on 9th July 1949 in Wallasey Cheshire, England. He is widely known for producing the popular television shows “So You Think You Can Dance,” “American Idol,” and “Pop Idol.” Nigel is a former dancer himself. In the early days of his career, he choreographed for Shirley Bassey and Ben Vereen. In 1995, he worked at London Weekend Television as Head of Entertainment.
In 2000, he was a judge in the reality music television series “Popstars,” where he was nicknamed Nasty Nigel. Two years later, he moved to the United States to produce the renowned television show “American Idol.” He also co-created the FOX TV reality show “So You Think You Can Dance.” In August 2008, he left American Idol and focused on So You Think You Can Dance. Nigel was also a judge on the UK version of So You Think You Can Dance.
