Nile is an American metal death band formed in 1993 in Greenville, South Carolina, United States. Karl Sanders, the founding member, used to play for Morriah before he left and formed Nile. The first members of the band were Karl Sanders (guitar/vocals), Chief Spires (bass/vocals), and Pete Hammoura (drums) although some have been replaced when they retired from the band.
Much of their music is written by Karl Sanders who has an interest in Egyptology and other ancient Middle Eastern cultures including Mesopotamia. Released in 1998, Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka helped Nile honed their self-proclaimed Ithyphallic metal. They also released amongst other albums and EPs, Those Whom the Gods Detest (2009), At the Gate of Sethu (2012), and Vile Nilotic Rights (2019). One could easily mistake the band members as having Egyptian roots but they just studied Egyptology as a hobby.
