Norm Lewis is an American actor born on June 2, 1963, in Eatonville, Florida, USA. He is best known for his work in Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, Da 5 Bloods, and the popular TV show Scandal alongside Kerry Washington. He is also a stage actor and singer and has appeared in Broadway productions of Sondheim on Sondheim, Porgy and Bess, and Les Miserables.
Before he became an actor, he worked for the Orlando Sentinel newspaper, and made his Broadway debut in 1993, in a production of The Who’s Tommy. In 2006 he was in the Broadway revival of Les Miserables alongside Daphne Rubin-Vega. In 2012, he was nominated for Broadway’s Tony Award for his role in Porgy and Bess. In 2014, he was cast in The Phantom of the Opera as the Phantom, making him the first African-American to play the role on Broadway. He has also appeared in popular TV shows including All My Children in 1998, Daytime Divas in 2017, and many more.
