Octavia Spencer, born Octavia Lenora Spencer on May the 25th 1972 in Alabama and is an American actress and author. Her career began in 1996 and in this time Spencer has been nominated for three Academy Awards, won one and won one BAFTA and Golden Globe, all for her breakthrough role in The Help in 2012.
Her debut role came with a role in A Time to Kill as a nurse and more recently has held roles in the critically acclaimed film, Hidden Figures as historical figure Dorothy Vaughan and The Shack as Papa as well as Zelda Fuller in Guillermo del Toro in The Shape of Water and has recently held television roles in the sitcom Mom as Regina and Nurse Dena Jackson in the medical drama Red Band Society.
