Onyi Moss (born August 16, 1986 in Abuja, Nigeria) is British Nigerian self-taught photographer, filmmaker, content creator, and singer-songwriter based in Manchester, UK. She is most renowned for her unique style of storytelling using visually appealing imagery.
While still very young, Onyi fell in love with art, music, and nature. She studied accounting at Madonna University and obtained a BSc shy of her 20th birthday. She moved to the UK on her 22nd birthday to pursue a career in finance. While waiting for a job, Onyi stumbled upon “Fashion Bloggers” on E!, a show focused on women who told beautiful stories using imagery. This show reignited her love for art.
Rather than pay her rent that month, Onyi opted to buy a camera and began teaching herself photography by watching YouTube tutorials. Not long after, she gained employment in a bank working in finance. As she worked, Onyi continued to harness her passion for photography. Soon enough, she was noticed by brands including Gucci, Carolina Herrera, Giorgio Armani, Penhaligon’s London, Viktor & Rolf. In 2019, she won the “Cosmopolitan Best Fashion Influencer Award”.
In January 2021, Onyi released her debut single titled “In Your Eyes” with an EP to follow. Soon after, she debuted her first web series titled “Black Women Are Soft Too”. The series focuses on highlighting the softness that exists in black women thereby relaying their humanity.
