Onyx Collective, an avant-garde American music collective, is renowned for their innovative take on alternative jazz. Distinguished by their unannounced and impromptu shows, the ensemble features an ever-changing lineup, reflecting the eclectic nature of their performances.
Isaiah Barr, the dynamic saxophonist and de facto leader, along with drummer Austin Williamson, form the core of the group. Collaborating with a rotating cast, including Joshua Benitez, Jack Guliemetti, Felix Pastorius, Spencer Murphy, Dean Torrey, Walter Stinson, and visual artist Maxwell Deter, Onyx Collective offers a dynamic and unpredictable musical experience. The collective's inclusive approach has attracted collaborations with notable New York figures like Nick Hakim and Princess Nokia.
In September 2016, Onyx Collective unveiled "Second Avenue Rundown," a collection of live recordings released through Supreme and Know-Wave. Just over a year later, the ensemble officially debuted with the EPs "Lower East Suite Part One and Two" in 2017. Their diverse discography boasts hit singles such as "Tango," "BABY," "Fruit Stand," "My Favorite Things," along with albums like "Lower East Suite Part Three" and "Manhattan Special."
