Oscar De La Hoya is an American former professional boxer, born on February 4, 1973, in East Los Angeles, California. He is best known as The Golden Boy, a nickname he earned by winning an Olympic gold medal for the US at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. His accolades include 11 world titles in six different weight classes.
During his career, he won 17 world championships and earned victories over Shane Mosely, Bernard Hopkins, and Mayweather. In 2008, The Golden Boy was defeated by Manny Pacquiao, and a year later, he announced his retirement as a fighter, following a professional career spanning 16 years. While he was still competing, he founded the promotional company Golden Boy Promotions in 2002. The company owns a 25% stake in the Houston Dynamo. In 2018, he began promoting MMA matches as well.
