Pablo Carreño Busta Bio

Pablo Carreno Busta (born July 12, 1991 in Gijon, Spain) is a professional tennis player. Busta began playing tennis at age six. With Juan Carlos Ferrero as his role model, Busta evolved quickly as a tennis player.


At 15, Busta started training in Barcelona. Busta turned professional in 2009 at age 18. He was ranked junior World No. 6 in 2009 and in November 2013, he was named the Most Improved Player of the Year. In 2013, Busta participated in his first-ever grand slam tournament as a qualifier at the French Open. He won his three qualification matches, before losing to Roger Federer in straight sets in the opening round.


In 2020 and 2021, Busta defeated world number one, Novak Djokovic, in the US Open and Tokyo Olympics. He also defeated No. 2 Medvedev en route to winning the 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medal. He reached the US Open Semi Finals and the Roland Garros Quarter Finals in 2017 and 2020 respectively. He also made it to the US Open doubles final with countryman Garcia-Lopez.


In 2020, Busta helped Team Spain to the ATP Cup finals (5-1 in doubles) and 2022 (4-1 in singles). Through his career, Busta has won 7 singles and 4 doubles titles and achieved a career-high of No. 10 in singles and No. 16 in doubles during the 2017 season.
