Paul Chelimo Bio
Paul Kipkemoi Chelimo (born October 27, 1990 in Iten, Kenya) is a Kenyan-born American track and field athlete.
Initially, Chelimo traveled to the United States in 2010 to run for Shorter College where he won the 3000 meters. He was also a part of their winning distance medley relay team that helped Shorter to the 2011 NAIA National Indoor Championship.
Following his success, Chelimo was transferred to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He finished in 2nd place in the 2012 and 2013 NCAA Championships 5000 meters. He became a citizen of the United States by joining the army through the Military accessions vital to national interest (MAVNI) program.
In 2014, he entered into their World Class Athletic Program. He represented the United States in the 3000 meters at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships held in Portland, Oregon. In 2016, he finished third in the 5000 meters at the Olympic Trials. He finished 2nd to Ethiopia’s Mo Farah at the 2016 Summer Olympics. In 2020, he won the bronze medal in the 5000 meters at the Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
