Paul Sorvino is an American movie, television and theater actor from Italian descent. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, U.S. on the 13th of April, 1939, as Paul Anthony Sorvino. He studied at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, and later on with Sanford Meisner. He made his Broadway debut in 1964, on the musical “Bajour” and in 1970, his film debut in “Where’s Poppa?” directed by Carl Reiner. He also directed in 1976, the theater play “Wheelbarrow Closers” in Broadway. He started playing in television series in 1991. He took on the role of Sergeant Phil on the successful series “Law & Order”, alongside Michael Moriarty. Overall, Sorvino has played in more than 50 movies, among which “Goodfellas” directed by Martin Scorsese, and “Romeo + Juliet”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes.
