Penny Oleksiak Bio

Penelope Oleksiak, known as Penny Oleksiak, is a Canadian swimmer that specializes in freestyle and butterfly events. She was born on June 13, 2000, in Toronto, Ontario. She learned to swim at her neighbor’s pool, and her father later encouraged her to take up the sport, which she did when she was 9. At first, she had trouble swimming the length of the pool, which is why she was rejected in many Toronto swim clubs until Gary Nolden accepted her in the Toronto Olympian Swim Team, where she caught the eye of Ben Titley, who led Canada’s Olympic team. In 2014, Oleksiak earned 5 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals at the Canadian Age Group Championship. She then qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro as a member of the Canadian national team, where she earned a total of 4 medals. She continued to participate in numerous competitions and then competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
