Phantom Planet is an American rock band formed in 1994 in Los Angeles. The band was originally composed of members Alex Greenwald, Jacques Brautbar, Sam Farrar, Darren Robinson, and Jason Schwartzman, son of actress Talia Shire and the nephew of director Francis Ford Coppola. They rose to fame with their song California, which was used as a theme to the prime-time TV series, The O.C.
They released their debut album, Phantom Planet Is Missing, in 1998. Their second album, Guest, came out in 2002, followed by Phantom Planet in 2004. Drummer Jeff Conrad joined the band in 2004. The band released the album Raise the Dead in 2008 and announced that they are going on hiatus the same year. The Los Angeles band reunited in 2019 and released the album Devastator in 2020.
