Portico Quartet is an English jazz band formed in 2005 by two sets of school friends in East London. They changed the name to just Portico in 2014. They primarily play acoustic: percussion, bass, and wind instruments.
The band consisted of drummer Duncan Bellamy, bassist Milo Fitzpatrick, Jack Wyllie (sang soprano and played the tenor saxophones and electronics), and Keir Vine who played the percussion. Paid bookings on South Bank in London marked their start. In 2007 they signed a record deal and produced Knee Deep in the North Sea, a full-length album. The album was nominated for the 2008 Mercury Music Prize and nominated for the world music Album of the Year for 2007 by Time Out magazine. Isla (their second album) came in 2009 and was recorded and produced by John Leckie. Portico Quartet (2012) and Living Fields (2015) followed.
