Quicksand is an alternative metal band that originated in the New York City hardcore scene in the late 1980s. The band released two influential studio albums in the early to mid-1990s. Before forming the band, Bold and Beyond, in 1990, its members, Walter Schreifels, Tom Capone, Sergio Vega, and Alan Cage, all gained experience playing in various local bands, such as Youth of Today and the Gorilla Biscuits. Although a reunion in 1997 led to a tour across the United States, the band disbanded the following year. As a result, the fans had to wait an additional 20 years before the band released a third album. Their return to the studio, 2017's Interiors, was followed relatively quickly by 2021's critically acclaimed Distant Populations.
