Born on March 28, 1955, in McAlester, Oklahoma, United States, McEntire grew up surrounded with country music and learned how to play guitar at a young age. After a few singles and a self-titled album that performed quite moderately, her second studio album “Out of a Dream” released in 1979 finally gave her single that reached Top 20 hit on the Billboard country chart. A few hits and misses followed but she achieved her biggest commercial breakthrough upon the release of “My Kind of Country” (1984) which reached number 13 becoming her highest-peaking album on the Top Country Albums chart. From there on, there was no looking back and McBride went on to become a country music phenomenon in her own right. She continued to rack up hits after hits and has released twenty nine studio albums since. 16 of her albums reached number one while 28 albums have been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum in sales.
