Rian Johnson is an American television director and filmmaker born in Silver Spring, Maryland on December 17, 1973. He is best known for writing and directing the films Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Brothers Bloom, Looper, and Brick. Johnson knew he wanted to be a director after he was inspired by the film Annie Hall. In 2005 he released his debut film Brick, the film went on to win several awards including, the Special Jury Prize for Originality of Vision at the Sundance Film Festival, a Most Promising Director Award from the Chicago Film Critics Association, and several more. He has also won awards for his work on Looper, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Breaking Bad such as a Saturn Award for Best Director, a Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Director on a Drama Series, and numerous others. He has also done work in television directing and writing for shows like BoJack Horseman, Breaking Bad, and Terriers, as well as writing and directing several short films.
