Richard Armitage Bio

Richard Armitage was born on August 22, 1971, in Leicester, England. When he was a student at Pattison College in Binley Road, Coventry, he fell in love with acting. His first leading role as John Thornton in the British television series North & South earned him recognition in the UK. He played the sinister and evil Guy of Gisborne in BBC Robin Hood from 2006 to 2009 before playing Lucas North in the popular British series Spooks from 2008 to 2010. He continued to appear in British television shows and played a minor but significant role in Captain America: The First Avenger. Thereafter, through his role of Thorin Oakenshield in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy, he became a household name and also won a Saturn Award.
