Richard Gere is an American actor and humanitarian born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 31, 1949. He is best known for his roles in the films American Gigolo, Pretty Woman, and Runaway Bride. His career in acting started in theater playing roles in productions of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Grease, and Bent, which he won a Theatre World award for. His career in film started in 1975 when he landed a role in the film Report to the Commissioner, he went on to land numerous roles in films, including Yanks, Breathless, No Mercy, Internal Affairs, Mr. Jones, First Knight, Chicago, Shall We Dance?,The Hoax, The Double, Movie 43, The Benefactor, The Dinner, and many more. He has also landed roles in several television series like, Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, Kojak, and MotherFatherSon. Throughout his career he has been nominated for a multitude of awards and has won a Golden Globe Award, a David di Donatello Award, a National Board of Review Freedom of Expression Award, a Broadcast Film Critics Association Award, A Screen Actors Guild Award, and an Independent Spirit Robert Altman Award.
