Ricki Lake, the American television host and actress was born on the September 21, 1968 in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. She is known for playing Tracy Turnblad, the title character, in the 1988 movie “Hairspray”, for which she was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead. In several of director John Waters' subsequent movies, including the Johnny Depp vehicle "Cry-Baby," Lake played a member of the actor repertory company (1990). The most notable aspects of Lake's career, however, were her dramatic weight loss and her role as host of the syndicated "Ricki Lake" talk show, which she hosted from 1993 to 2004. Lake was still able to make occasional cameo appearances in John Waters movies like "Serial Mom" (1994) and "Cecil B. Demented" (2000) while she was at the height of her daytime television.
