Ridley Scott is an English film director and producer born in South Shields, County Durham, England on November 30, 1937. He is best known for his work on the films Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, and The Martian. In 1968 he and Tony Scott founded the film and commercial production company Ridley Scott Associates. During the 1970s, Scott directed and produced many commercials. In 1977 he made his feature film directorial debut on the film The Duellist. He became well known in 1979 after the release of the film Alien. Alien was the highest-grossing film of 1979. He has since directed and/or produced the films Blade Runner, Legend, Black Rain, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, A Good Year, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster, Body of Lies, Robin Hood, The Martian, The Counselor, Alien: Covenant, All The Money in the World, Prometheus and more. He has also produced and/or directed episodes of the shows Numb3rs, The Good Wife, The Man in the High Castle, The Terror, and others. Throughout his career he has been nominated for a number of awards and has won a Golden Globe, three Saturn Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Directors Guild of America Award and more.
