Dr. Riley J. Williams III, widely recognized as Riley Williams, is a distinguished orthopedic surgeon specializing in knee, shoulder, and elbow surgery at the Sports Medicine Institute of Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS).
He holds the esteemed position of Professor at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Williams completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University and earned his medical degree from Stanford University. With a profound commitment to advancing sports medicine, Dr. Williams's clinical and research pursuits focus on facilitating athletes' return to sport. His expertise encompasses articular cartilage repair and transplantation, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, meniscus repair and transplantation, arthroscopic shoulder stabilization and labrum repair, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and elbow ligament reconstruction. Additionally, Dr. Williams employs stem cells and biologics in treating various musculoskeletal disorders.
As Director of the Institute for Cartilage Repair at HSS, Dr. Williams plays a pivotal role in pioneering advancements in orthopedic care. He serves as the Medical Director and Head Team Orthopedic Surgeon for the Brooklyn Nets (NBA), New York Liberty (WNBA), and New York Red Bulls (MLS). Furthermore, Dr. Williams directs the FIFA Medical Centre of Excellence at HSS, specializing in soccer injury care, and has contributed his expertise to renowned sports clubs like the New York Mets and New York Giants.
